British Flair 2023

Tradition and Innovation was the motto for this year's British Flair. For the first time the country fair and charity event took place on Gut Basthorst outside of Hamburg instead of the Polo Club in town. The late summer day could not have been more brilliant (and hot), and the venue was perfectly suited to displaying all things British. The @Scottish Country Dancers of Hamburg demonstration team - including some first-time performers! - danced on stage twice in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. They certainly conveyed the joy and fun of Scottish dancing! @Sabine gave her debut as presenter, sharing some insights about SCD and challenging the spectators to spot the dolphins in Pelorus Jack… We look forward to next year's British Flair!

Ball 2023

We had a ball! Our group's first big post-pandemic DO at a new venue in Hamburg and with a new committee was a rousing success due to @Silke and @Matthias playing (and even singing!) for us. And of course due to all of you coming to dance and celebrate the @RSCDS Dance Scottish centenary with us. Thank you! We look forward to seeing you all again in Hamburg for the next event!

British Flair 2022

One of the nice traditions of the SCDH year is the performance at the British Flair in late summer at the Hamburg Polo Club in Klein Flottbek. This year we were allowed two time slots on the big stage. Even on Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, a surprisingly large number of spectators had already gathered. Besides the commitment to a good cause, the main aim is to show our audience the fun of dancing together and to draw attention to our group.

British Flair 2021

The annual British Flair expo and country fair at the Polo Club in Klein Flottbek is one of the highlights of the year for the Scottish Country Dancers of Hamburg (SCDH). Like in the previous year the 2021 event was allowed to take place under special health precautions. Due to travel restrictions between the UK and Germany most exhibitors were actually from Germany, trying to summon British lifestyle and hold up the British Flair spirit.

Weekend Course 2020

This years Hamburg Weekend Course should have been held from Friday, May 22nd to Sunday, May 24th 2020. We had booked a venue including accommodation and full board. Rachel Shankland and Mervyn Short would have been our teachers and Judith and Ian Muir were ready to provide the music for classes and evening events.

Weekend course

The Weekend Course 2020 has been cancelled in light of the current COVID-19 virus situation.

We hope to find a new date and may be our teachers and musicians will be able to come over then. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Northern German Social

The plan is to have 4 afternoons during the year to meet and dance. No step practice - just dancing and having fun. Dances will be walked through during the Recap (Walk as I talk). David and Avril will make sure that we will get a wonderful Recap.

Beginners Workshops

Few times a year beginners workshops take place. A good opportunity to practise steps and basic figures. Please contact us to get further information.

Demonstrations

The SCDH have performed in many places in Hamburg, to name a few: in the City Hall (das Rathaus) as well as on the square in front of it, in the CCH, the Schauspielhaus, the Musikhalle, the Auditorium Maximum, at 'Britfest / Hafengeburtstag' at various places along the river Elbe, in the MARKK (former Museum für Völkerkunde), and, last but not least regularly at 'British Flair'.

Ceilidhs

We can lead Ceilidhs, for example for weddings or birthdays - it's great fun. Please contact us so that we can arrange details. Danny Bhoy's hilarious description of a Scottish Ceilidh dance, from the show Danny Bhoy Live at The Festival Theatre.
